New Year festivals of Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar celebrated in HCMC

(VOVWORLD) - The traditional New Year festival of Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and Myanmar - Bunpimay, Songkran, Chol Chhnam Thmay, and Thingyang - was celebrated at Pho Minh Pagoda in Ho Chi Minh City on Friday.

The event was jointly organised by the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organisations (HUFO) and the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Chapter in the city.

The annual celebration of the traditional festival demonstrates the friendship between the people of ASEAN, promotes mutual understanding between Vietnam and its neighboring countries and enhances cultural exchanges and multifaceted cooperation with other countries.

Traditional rituals were performed, including burning incense and praying for peace, bathing Buddha, and blessing and receiving New Year fortune.

On behalf of the Consulates General of the four countries, Lao Deputy Consul General in HCM City Amphay Souvannaseng said this traditional New Year festival connects the people of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam, shows their affection and solidarity to work for national construction and development.
