Pakistan launches military operation against India, closes entire airspace

(VOVWORLD) - Pakistan has launched a large-scale military operation, codenamed Bunyanun Marsoos, a reference to the Quranic phrase meaning “Strong Structure” to retaliate India, according to Xinhua news agency.

The operation reportedly targets multiple sites across India, including the BrahMos missile depot in the city of Beas.

India's NDTV reported that Pakistan has closed its airspace to all commercial and military air traffic.

Tensions escalated after both New Delhi and Islamabad accused each other of launching ballistic missiles. India’s News18 reported that Pakistan fired six ballistic missiles at the Indian state of Punjab on Friday, all of which were intercepted.

Meanwhile, a Pakistani military spokesperson told state radio that India had also launched ballistic missiles, but they fell within Indian territory in Punjab.

In related development, Pakistani military spokesperson Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said India had launched air-to-surface missiles targeting three Pakistani air bases.
