Philippine government urged to protest new Chinese districts in East Sea

(VOVWORLD) -Former Philippines Foreign Secretary Albert Del Rosario on Sunday urged the Philippine government to protest China's establishment of two districts aimed at exerting control over the South China Sea (called the East Sea in Vietnam).

Del Rosario said in a statement that the Philippine government has protested China's sinking of Vietnamese boats in the South China Sea, and now must protest China's establishment of what it calls the  “Xisha” and “Nansha” districts of Sansha City on Hainan Island.

Del Rosario said China has been ruthless in exploiting the COVID-19 pandemic to pursue its illegal claims in the South China Sea, to the prejudice of Filipinos, ASEAN, and the entire international community.
