Mekong Delta has great potential for development, however, Prime Minister Chinh said this region still has two major bottlenecks in terms of transport and human resources. He stressed the need to resolutely come up with solutions to remove these two bottlenecks.
After inspecting the Can Tho-Ca Mau vertical expressway project, the last section of the North-South Eastern Expressway, the Prime Minister requested that this project must be inaugurated no later than December 19 this year. Horizontal projects including the Chau Doc-Can Tho-Soc Trang expressway and other important projects also need to be carried out aggressively, he added. All these will help achieve the goal of 600 km of expressway in the Mekong Delta by the end of this year.
The Prime Minister also directed implementation of projects from now until the end of the term, including the expressway section from Ca Mau to Dat Mui and from Dat Mui to Hon Khoai port, so that by 2030 the Mekong Delta will have at least 1,200 km of expressway.
