(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Tuesday called on Russian oil and gas company Zarubezhneft to work with Petrovietnam to consider expanding investment in new oil and gas exploration and production projects in Vietnam and Russia, ensuring compliance with the laws of both countries and harmonizing interests and investment efficiency.

During his official visit to Russia, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited and worked with Zarubezhneft, one of Vietnam's leading partners in the oil and gas sector. The Russian company has over 40 years of cooperation with the Vietnam National Energy and Industry Group (Petrovietnam) and two joint ventures, Vietsovpetro (in Vietnam) and Rusvietpetro (in Russia), in geological exploration and oil and gas development.
At the meeting in Moscow, Zarubezhneft leaders reiterated the great potential for energy cooperation between Russia and Vietnam. They proposed expanding cooperation with Vietnamese partners in new areas such as implementing an offshore wind energy development program, including an offshore wind farm project with a capacity of 1GW, as well as implementing joint projects in third countries.

On the Russian government side, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said that he will strive, together with relevant agencies, to continue promoting cooperation in oil and gas and energy, contributing to the implementation of the agreement between the senior leaders of the two countries.
Witnessing Vietnamese and Russian companies signing contracts within the framework of the working session, Prime Minister Chinh said that energy cooperation is a pillar in bilateral relations and that this cooperation has a century-long vision and is a strategic issue for both countries. He suggested that both sides continue to seek solutions for stronger cooperation, faster and more effective implementation, and engage in the restructuring of the global oil and gas industry.
