Mr. Phuc highlighted the significance of the victory which made the US stop bombing northern Vietnam and return to the Paris negotiations on the ending the war in Vietnam.

“The ‘Hanoi-Dien Bien Phu in the air’ victory showed the Party’s sound political and military guidelines. It is considered one of Vietnam’s great victories of the 20^th century. This is also a victory for socialism, marking the fall of neo-colonialism and contributing to the development and strength of the world’s revolutionary movements against imperialism,” he said.

President Phuc said the “Hanoi-Dien Bien Phu in the air” victory also teaches lessons that can be applied to the present national construction and defence cause. Those are lessons about the strength of national unity, self-reliance, creativity, and support from international friends for Vietnam during its resistance wars for national independence, he added.
