Press awards on marine environmental protection announced

(VOVWORLD) - The Voice of Vietnam on Tuesday hosted the press award "Mitigating marine plastic debris" and ASEAN regional photo contest “White pollution and its impacts on marine ecosystem”.

The award is co-organized by VTC News online newspaper of the Voice of Vietnam, Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the World Wildlife Fund-Vietnam.

VOV’s Vice President Ngo Minh Hien highlighted how much the awards mean to environmental protection. “The press award "Mitigating marine plastic debris" and ASEAN regional photo contest “White pollution and its impacts on marine ecosystem” honors authors and journalistic works showing the responsibility of the press in mitigating marine debris and protecting the oceans. It also strengthens coordination among countries to address this matter in the ASEAN region,” he said. 

Beating 310 other entries, the report "The fight against plastic waste” by journalists Do Thi Hoa and Pham Ngoc Phuc of the Vietnam Television’s VTV24 channel, won the first prize.

The ASEAN regional photo contest received more than 7,500 entries by 2,700 authors from Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Vietnam. The first prize was given to "Plastic waste" by Winniwat Traitongtanarat of Thailand.
