In a joint statement, the senators said the Congress should immediately appoint an electoral commission, with full investigatory and fact-finding authority, to conduct an emergency 10-day audit of the election returns in the disputed states.

The senators is working separately with Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri in committing to challenging the result.

But the bid is predicted to hardly reverse the victory of Democratic candidate Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election.

Congress will meet Wednesday, January 6, to formally count the votes cast by the Electoral College – 306 for Biden, 232 for President Donald Trump. It takes 270 to win the White House. The meeting is required by the US Constitution.
