David Rachline (R) won one of the two seats gained by the National Front in the Senate.

The coalition, consisting of the Union for a Popular Movement, the Union of Democrats and Independents, and other small parties, won 187 seats—13 seats more than needed for an absolute majority—while the left-wing coalition won just 155 seats. France’s Senate election was held Sunday to determine 179 out of 348 seats. French President Francois Hollande’s approval is decreasing due to a high unemployment rate and declining social welfare.
