Seminar discusses “East Sea: Maritime Lanes and Territorial Claims” - ảnh 1

(VOVworld) - Delegates at a seminar on the East Sea have voiced concerns thatCompeting claims over territory, and any subsequent energy resource have become a source of international tension and threaten peaceful passage through these waters. The seminar themed “East Sea: Maritime Lanes and Territorial Claims” was held on Monday in New York by the Asia Society. The participants said that claimants to parts of the East Sea should abide by the 1982 UN Convention of the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982) and the 2002 Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) so as to settle all disputes peacefully and for common benefits. The seminar called on the US to continue protecting the right of passage in the East Sea and carry out its commitment to maintain peace and stability in the region. Founded in 1956 by John D. Rockefeller 3rd, the Asia Society is a nonpartisan, nonprofit institution with its headquarters in New York. It has centers in Hong Kong and Houston, and affiliated offices in Los Angeles, Manila, Sydney, Mumbai, San Francisco, Seoul, Shanghai, and Washington, DC.
