The Government spokesman made the clarification following a recent directive from the Prime Minister on emergency measures to fight COVID-19.

According to Mr. Dung, Prime Minister Phuc considers social distancing a legitimate way to protect public health. Social distancing does not entail suspending travel or locking down the community. Mr. Phuc says Vietnam must continue to ensure the distribution of goods, safe production, and especially the manufacture of essential goods, medical equipment, and export items. Exports via land and sea, as well as domestic economic activities, will continue as usual.

According to Minister Dung, the Government will allow factories and workshops to continue operating, but is asking that offices, State administrative agencies, and white collar businesses allow employees to work from home. Social distancing will continue until April 15th  to slow coronavirus transmission in the community.
