The South Korean government praised North Korea for its prompt apology and promise to prevent any further such incidents, Suh Choo-suk, South Korea’s Deputy Director of National Security, told reporters.

The South Korean Defense Ministry confirmed last Thursday that North Korea had shot and killed a South Korean official who went missing a few days earlier. Efforts have been ongoing to find the official’s body and belongings.
