The death toll from accidents related to the storm has risen to more than 40 since Sandy made landfall on Monday on America’s East coast. The New York subway system, much of which was flooded by seawater, will need to recover from what management is calling the worst disaster in its 108-year history. About 8 million people are without power in 15 states and Washington, DC. The New York Stock Exchange has closed for 2 days, its longest ever weather-related closure. Hurricane Sandy grounded well more than 10,000 flights and some airports may not reopen today. President Barack Obama has cancelled election campaigning for the last two days and held an online meeting with 13 state governors and federal disaster officials to discuss relief efforts. Republican candidate Mitt Romney has also cancelled a number of election activities and organized a flood relief event at Dayton, Ohio. Romney called for donations of money and supplies to the Red Cross organization to help people affected by the storm.
