Syria's internal opposition has called on both the government and armed rebel groups to stop the fighting immediately at a rare meeting yesterday/ on Sunday in Damascus.

The meeting was organized by the National Coordination Body for Democratic Change in Syria (NCB), an organization encompassing 16 opposition groups in the country.  The meeting called on the regime's forces to stop the violence immediately and on the armed opposition to commit to the same under appropriate Arab and international supervision. The UN-Arab envoy, Lakhdar Brahimi, was also asked to call for an international conference on Syria to discuss measures for the country’s transitional periods.
