The US hails agreement between the two Koreas

The US on Monday hailed the agreement between the two Koreas to hold government-level talks this week to resolve inter-Korean issues. In a statement, U.S. State Department Spokeswoman Jen Psaki said that the U.S. government supports and has always supported improved inter-Korean relationships, and will continue its close coordination with its allies and partners in the region to observe the process. The upcoming talks will focus on normalization of the operation of the inter-Korean Industrial Park and resuming tours to Kumgang mountain as well as the reunion of families separated by the Korean war in 1950-1953, and other humanitarian issues. The US Department of State said it was too early to assess the possibility of resuming talks between the US and North Korea especially as the West was still trying to deal with Pyongyang’s nuclear program.
