Speaking to reporters, Trump suggested that a new trade agreement between the US and China could be possible. He emphasized that any dialogue or meeting between the two leaders would be crucial in potentially reducing or delaying US trade tariffs on China.

The last time President Xi visited the US was in November 2023, marking his fifth visit to the country. During that trip, Xi met with President Joe Biden, and the two leaders agreed to resume military communications and take measures to curb fentanyl production.

Trump and Xi also had a phone conversation before Trump’s inauguration on January 20, during which they discussed TikTok, trade relations, and the Taiwan (China) issue.
