UN, US strongly condemn bloody bomb attack in Iraq

(VOVworld) – UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and the US strongly condemned the devastating bomb attack on July 17th in Baghdad which left over 100 civilians killed and voiced their support for the Iraqi government in the fight against IS. US National Security Council spokesman Ned Price said that the car bombing purposefully and viciously targeted Iraqi civilians.  The White house said that the latest attack is yet another painful example of the atrocities that the terrorist group IS continues to perpetrate against the people of Iraq. The US will continue to support the government of Iraq and its security forces to degrade and ultimately destroy this terrorist organization.

Secretary General Ban Ki-moon expressed his deepest sympathy for the victims and their families. He hopes that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are swiftly brought to justice.  He stands in solidarity with the people and Government of Iraq. According to the latest report, the death toll of the bomb attack now is 115 with 170 people injured and 23 others missing. The IS claimed responsibility and said the suicide attacker had three tons of explosives in his vehicle.
