US accuses China over Pentagon cyber attacks

The US Department of Defense has released an annual report called “Military and Security Developments Involving the People’s Republic of China 2013” which for the first time directly accuses China of a cyber espionage campaign against the US. According to the report, in 2012, computer systems in the US are were target of hacker attacks. Some of these attacks “appear to be attributable directly to the Chinese government and military”. China immediately denied the accusation. At a briefing in Beijing on Monday, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said spreading the story of a “cyber threat from China” could harm bilateral cooperation between China and US. She said China opposes any form of cyber attack and wants to cooperate with the US in holding constructive dialogue on network security.
