The bill was passed with strong bipartisan support. Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, called it "a decisive step toward giving the Syrian people a real chance to rebuild."
Damascus hailed the decision as a turning point. Syria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani, thanked the US for supporting the Syrian people. He described the repeal of sanctions as "a positive development that opens new horizons for cooperation and partnership between our country and the world."
