(VOVworld) - US Congressman Eni Faleomavaega, a member of the Subcommittee on Asia Pacific on Saturday introduced a bill to promote peaceful and collaborative resolution of maritime territorial disputes in the East Sea and its environs and other maritime areas adjacent to the East Asian mainland. Faleomavaega said the introduction of the H.R.6313 instead of a resolution on the East Sea shows how serious the issue is. The congressman expressed his deep concerns about China’s excessive claim of territorial sovereignty without international legal foundations. Faleomavaega mentioned China’s recent unilateral acts leading to increased tensions in the East Sea, such as invitation for bids of 9 oil lots in Vietnam's exclusive economic zone and continetal shelf, the establishment of a new military garrison in the East Sea and especially the  upgrading of the administrative  level of Sansha City there. The US politician called on China to resolve the dispute in a cooperative manner, via diplomatic measures without coercion, intimidation, threats and the use of force. And above all, he said, China should negotiate with ASEAN on the Code of Conduct of Parties in the East Sea.
