US to consider waivers on Iran sanctions

(VOVWORLD) - The US in certain cases will consider waivers for countries that need more time to wind down imports of oil from Iran as it seeks to avoid disrupting global oil markets while re-imposing sanctions against Tehran.

US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said on Monday that the US wants people to reduce oil purchases to zero, but in certain cases if people can’t do that overnight, they’ll consider exceptions.

The Trump administration is pushing countries to cut all imports of Iranian oil starting in November, when the US will re-impose sanctions against Tehran after Trump withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal, signed in 2015 with the P5+1, which includes Russia, the UK, the US, China, and Germany.
