Vessels asked to seek safe shelter as typhoon Rai approaching

(VOVWORLD) - The National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control during an online meeting on Sunday asked localities to closely monitor the developments of typhoon Rai and continue to instruct vessels to find safe shelter.

11 provinces and cities, from Quang Binh to Binh Thuan province, are banning all activities at sea and planning to evacuate 305,000 people of nearly 70,000 households living in areas at risk of floods and landslides.

Deputy chief of the steering committee's office, Vu Xuan Thanh, stressed that typhoon Rai is going stronger with bigger waves and winds affecting the coastal area. He said that its trajectory is moving to the North, calling vessels in northern East Sea and Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago to seek safe shelter.
