He was speaking at a conference in Hanoi on Tuesday reviewing the National Action Program on overcoming the post-war consequences of UXO in Vietnam for the 2010-2025 period.
The Prime Minister urged further progress in mastering UXO clearance technologies and strengthening public communication and education to raise awareness of accident prevention.
He also called on foreign governments and international organizations to continue supporting Vietnam in addressing the enduring consequences of war.
“We greatly appreciate the humanitarian assistance extended to Vietnam, a meaningful expression of solidarity and compassion. UXO clearance is not only about remediation; it also serves as a warning against war and a strong message in support of peace. No nation should experience war, as its consequences endure long after the fighting ends,” said PM Chinh.
From 2010 to 2025, some 530,000 hectares of land nationwide were cleared of UXO. Areas suspected of contamination have been reduced to about 5.5 million hectares, accounting for roughly 17% of Vietnam’s territory.
UXO remediation projects funded by foreign governments and international organizations, including the United States, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Norway, have delivered tangible and effective results.
