Vietnam aims to have 150 million COVID-19 vaccine doses in 2021

(VOVWORLD) - There is a good chance Vietnam will have 150 million COVID-19 vaccine doses by the end of this year, enough to cover 70% of the population, but Vietnam needs that amount of vaccine as soon as possible, preferably before October, according to a report from the Ministry of Health.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, who heads the National Steering Committee on COVID-19 Prevention and Control, met with ministries, sectors, and Ho Chi Minh City municipal authorities on Wednesday. The Committee asked the Ministry of Health to quickly pilot a new model in which people take samples for testing themselves, in case the coronavirus spreads to multiple industrial parks at the same time.

Later the same day, the Committee worked with leaders of Bac Giang and Bac Ninh province, two pandemic hotspots of Vietnam. Bac Giang province was praised for getting on track to halt the latest COVID-19 outbreak. The Committee urged local authorities to closely monitor the community, ensure health safety at production sites, quarantine facilities, and lockdown areas, and evacuate workers from highly-contagious areas for disinfection. Bac Ninh authorities were told to do everything they can to keep the coronavirus from spreading between industrial parks.
