Vietnam Airlines opens HCM city-Van Don route

(VOVWORLD) - A Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787 Dreamliner landed at Van Don international airport on Sunday morning, opening the carrier’s daily air service between HCM city and Van Don in the northern province of Quang Ninh.

It was the first commercial flight to touch down on the first private airport in Vietnam, which was inaugurated the same day. Vietnam Airlines President and CEO Duong Tri Thanh said the new route is part of Vietnam Airlines’ strategy to expand services in the north coastal region and the national flag carrier will work with Quang Ninh authorities to attract more visitors from South Korea, Japan, and China.

“We are very excited to be among the first passengers to fly from Van Don airport. The airport is a new landmark in Quang Ninh’s tourism and aviation development plan,” said passenger Doan Van Dung.

“We booked tickets to HCM city as soon as we had learnt of the new air route. I was so excited and woke up early today. I’m so proud of the airport and proud to be one of the first passengers,” said passenger Ly Thi Hang.     

Vietnam Airlines will operate one flight every day on the HCM city-Van Don route, using Airbus A321 aircraft. The flight will depart HCM city at 2 p.m. and travel time is estimated at 2 hours.
