Vietnam and Russia celebrate historic victories

(VOVworld) – The Russian Centre for Science and Culture in Hanoi and the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organisations on Wednesday celebrated the 60th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu victory (May 7th) and the 69th anniversary of the former Soviet Union’s victory in the Great Patriotic War (May 9th).

Vice Chairwoman of the Union Vu Thi Hai lauded the two victories, saying they brought peace to many people around the world.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Germany on Tuesday screened films about the Dien Bien Phu Victory and General Vo Nguyen Giap. Vietnamese ambassador to Germany Nguyen Thi Hoang Anh stressed that Vietnam is a peace-loving country and consistently tries to resolve differences in a peaceful manner in line with the UN Charter. However, when Vietnam’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity are threatened, the Vietnamese people will fight to protect their rights and legitimate interests.
The same day, the Cuban newspaper Granma reviewed the Dien Bien Phu victory, and noted that national solidarity is a key factor in defeating invaders with a stronger military force.
French newspapers such as Le Monde, Libération, Le Point, and Le Nouvel Observateur ran articles about the Dien Bien Phu Victory. Television channels TF1, France 24, BFMTV, and e-newspapers covered the victory’s commemoration in Vietnam.
