Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, Chairman of the National Committee for HIV/AIDS, Drugs and Prostitution Prevention and Control, said the Vietnamese Government hopes to closely work with Cambodia and Laos in the fight against drugs, thus ensuring healthy and sustainable development in each nation:“Drug users are the subject of crimes and many of them are criminals. We need to remember that behind drug users are their families who are later driven to poverty and committed crimes. We need to strengthen coordination between law enforcement force, the local authority and the community to combat drug crimes. Collaboration between Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia has become more important than ever amidst the increasingly complicated developments in the region and around the world”.

Participants agreed to step up cooperation through increasing educational activities to persuade local residents not to plant opium trees, use or trade drugs, and expand the program on building drug-free border areas
