Vietnam - Japan toll bell for peace and friendship

(VOVworld) – The Vietnam – Japan Friendship Organization held a prayer for peace at Bac Ninh provincial Museum yesterday. The event is in anticipation of the 39th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties, Vietnam – Japan Friendship Year 2013, and the 35th anniversary of the Ngu Ho bell in Japan.

Vietnamese and Japanese delegates tolled the bell to pray for peace, happiness, and friendship for both countries. Nghiem Vu Khai, President of the Vietnam – Japan Friendship Organization says: "Over the last 40 years of diplomatic ties, Vietnam and Japan cooperation has progressed rapidly in many areas. Our efforts have overcome difficulties and progressed toward our common goals of peace, development, and prosperity."

The Ngu Ho bell, which was cast in 1820 in Bac Ninh, was lost during World War II. Lawyer Watanabe Takuro found it in Japan and helped to bring it back to its original place in June 1978. "The bell symbolizes the deep sentiment of Vietnamese and Japanese people for each other. The bell tolls the sound of peace. I hope Vietnamese and Japanese people will protect it for peace and friendship", Takuro says.
