Themed “Closing the early warning gap together”, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) calls for strengthening national capacity and cooperation at all levels to ensure the early warning system operates effectively from the global to the local scale, thus shortening the gap in forecasting and warning of natural disasters.
Vietnam's early warning system has improved significantly, including a national hydrometeorological monitoring network of 217 surface meteorological monitoring stations, 2,000 automatic rain stations, 426 hydrological stations, 27 oceanographic meteorological stations, and 10 weather radar stations.

Vietnam has also applied advanced technologies, such as supercomputer systems to enhance forecasting capacity and deployed data assimilation technology from satellites, radars and surface observations to improve the accuracy in forecasting heavy rains, flash floods and landslides.
Mai Van Khiem, Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecast at the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, said, “The Center will further coordination with domestic agencies and strengthen international cooperation to successfully implement the UN’s Early Warning for All aimed to ensure universal protection from hazardous weather, water, or climate events through life-saving early warning systems by the end of 2027."
