The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the UK Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS), and was attended by representatives from ASEAN member states and a number of e-commerce platforms, who discussed a Product Safety Portal for ASEAN that will allow members to flag unsafe products and share information on product recalls in real-time. This mechanism will help limit cross-border distribution of unsafe products and improve coordination between regulators.

Delegates from the UK shared their experience in operating a product safety database, which will help regulators transition to digital monitoring of product safety. Pilot results suggest these solutions can eliminate up to 50% of the unsafe products on major e-commerce platforms.

The event introduced several web-scraping tools, which can help agencies monitoring high-risk electrical devices, children toys, and beauty products. A Southeast Asia-UK e-commerce platform liaison group was launched to establish a rapid coordination channel between regulators and businesses.
