(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam welcomed the new ceasefire agreement and praised the international diplomatic efforts that have encouraged dialogue between the parties, promoted the prospect of ending the Gaza conflict, and created a foundation for sustainable peace in the region, said Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Vietnamese Permanent Delegation to the UN.

The UN Security Council held an open ministerial discussion in New York on Monday on the situation in the Middle East and Palestine. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and the foreign ministers, ambassadors, and representatives of 60 countries attended the discussion chaired by Ahmed Attaf, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Algeria, which holds the presidency of the UNSC in January 2025.
Mr. Giang affirmed the importance of complying with international law, the UN Charter, resolutions of the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly, and provisional measures of the International Court of Justice.
He said the implementation and maintenance of ceasefires must go hand in hand with the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, the release of all hostages, and ensuring the smooth flow of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza delivered by the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.
