(VOVWORLD) - Hung Vuong Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City on Saturday inaugurated the largest breast milk bank in Vietnam with an investment of 256,000 USD, which is able to sterilize 62 liters of milk per day. The inauguration responds to World Breastfeeding Week, promotes the breastfeeding movement in Vietnam, and contributes to increasing life chances for premature, low birth weight and pathological babies.

Doctor Nguyen Truong Son, Deputy Minister of Health, said that the infant mortality rate in Vietnam is still high, accounting for 70-80% of all deaths in children under 1 year old.

Studies show that breast milk is the most important and has the greatest potential to impact child survival. Breast milk not only helps children grow up quickly and comprehensively, but also strengthens the immune system, especially when the child's immune system is not yet complete. Passive antibodies passed from mother to baby in breast milk will help the baby fight infections in the environment.
