Vietnam’s trade turnover set to hit record 920 billion USD in 2025

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam’s import-export turnover in 2025 is expected to reach a record high of over 920 billion USD, with exports estimated at 470 billion USD. This milestone places Vietnam among the world’s top 20 countries in terms of total trade value.

“Vietnam’s export structure has changed significantly with 85% of exported goods being industrial products,” Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the Agency of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said at a seminar on solutions for high and sustainable export growth, held in Hanoi on Tuesday.

Fuel and mineral products, which accounted for the largest share of exports prior to 1995, now represent only a small proportion, he said, adding “On the import side, around 90% of imported goods consist of raw materials and inputs serving production and export activities, with the remainder being consumer goods.”

The Ministry also highlighted that Vietnamese enterprises have made effective use of preferential treatment under 17 free trade agreements (FTAs) covering more than 60 major markets worldwide. As a result, Vietnam’s import-export activities have enjoyed average annual growth of 14-16%.

Vietnam is projected to maintain a trade surplus in 2025, marking ten consecutive years of trade surplus and a well-balanced trade position.
