Tawfik Jelassi, UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information, said radio provides information, encourages the creation of peace initiatives, and calls for cooperation and attempts to resolve conflicts. Radio also opens up a space for dialogue and exchange, allowing people to express their views on issues of concern, he added.

This year, the Asia-Pacific Institute of Broadcasting Development (AIBD) will host a webinar on Thursday with the theme “Towards Peace: The Power of Broadcasting”.

According to UNESCO, radio has always been a universal means of communicating with uniformity, especially in reaching poor, marginalized, and hard-to-reach areas.

Radio broadcasting offers everyone, regardless of educational background or socioeconomic status, opportunities to entertain and engage in public, interactive debates.

Radio stations all over the world come together to celebrate the value of radio in building a peaceful world.
