(VOVworld) - Vietnam’s agricultural sector has made many achievements in food, aquatic products, and industrial crops. This is thanks to the sector developing comprehensively, adapting to climate change, and lowering the impact of natural disasters. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung stated this at the opening ceremony of the 2nd global conference on agriculture, food security, and climate change in Hanoi on Thursday. In only a few years, Vietnam has risen to become the world’s second biggest rice exporter after being a country that used to suffer from food shortages. The country’s 10-year socio-economic development strategy until 2020 will continue to speed up industrialization and modernization to ensure a sustainable growth. As part of the strategy, Vietnam is targeting producing high quality, competitive products to safeguard the nation’s food security and satisfy the domestic demand and that for exports. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung says ‘The conference focused on practical issues, and identified efficient development strategies to develop environmentally-friendly agricultural sector that encourages sustainability and green growth. I hope the conference will identify more ways of developing the sector to deal with food security issues caused by global climate change challenges, especially in rural areas.’
