(VOVWORLD) - President of Russia Vladimir Putin held phone talks with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee To Lam on Saturday evening to offer congratulations on the success of the 14th National Congress of the CPV.

President Vladimir Putin affirmed that the 14th National Congress is a major political event that sets strategic orientations, defines major goals, and adopts important decisions, tasks, and solutions to guide Vietnam’s rapid and sustainable development in the new era, with the aim of becoming a high-income developed country by 2045.
The Russian President emphasized that General Secretary To Lam's re-election to the post reflects the Vietnamese Party leader's political prestige and significant contributions to the formulation and implementation of strategic policies for driving Vietnam's sustainable socio-economic development, safeguarding its interests, and promoting its stature in the international arena.

On behalf of the Communist Party and the people of Vietnam, General Secretary To Lam underlined that throughout the Party congresses, Vietnam has received support from traditional friends, including the former Soviet Union and the Russian Federation today. He noted that the 14th National Party Congress reaffirmed Vietnam’s steadfast commitment to the goals of national independence and socialism under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
The Party leader said Vietnam always views Russia as a reliable and top-priority partner in Europe, and wishes to develop bilateral friendship and cooperation in line with the spirit of the Vietnam – Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
President Putin stressed that Russia attaches particular importance to its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam, built on 75 years of traditional friendship and continuously nurtured by leaders and people of both countries.
He reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to close coordination to comprehensively strengthen bilateral ties for the benefit of the Russian and Vietnamese peoples, and for the sake of stability and security in the Asia–Pacific region.
Both leaders agreed to maintain constructive and open exchanges in a spirit of mutual understanding, respect, and harmonization of interests, with a view to elevating cooperation in traditional areas and expanding into new, promising fields.
On this occasion, President Putin invited General Secretary To Lam to visit Russia at a convenient time for both sides. General Secretary To Lam accepted the invitation and extended an invitation to President Vladimir Putin to visit Vietnam in the near future.
