(VOVworld) - The General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) on Tuesday approved Vietnam’s proposal to host the 132^nd IPU General Assembly in 2015. The Vietnam General Assembly made the proposal to the IPU in August 2012 and the IPU Secretariat examined Vietnam’s capacity earlier this year. The Secretariat highly valued Vietnam’s political commitment and its well-prepared preparatory plan for the event. Vietnam’s bid received strong support from all countries of the ASEAN plus 3 (ASEAN+3) and Asia-Pacific Group (APG) at the 128^th session of the IPU General Assembly in Ecuador. At its plenary session on March 27, the IPU General Assembly approved resolutions on international peace-security, trade, sustainable development, and human rights. The Vietnamese delegation led by the Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly attended the meeting from March 22-27.  During her stay, Ngan met with the President and held talks with the Vice Speaker of the parliament of Ecuador in a bid to strengthen multifaceted cooperation between the two countries and their legislative bodies.
