[VOVWORLD] - VOV has rolled out a new music channel called Sonata-FM89 on its broadcast and online radio platforms. The classical music channel’s tagline is "Exquisite Music, Connecting Emotions".
The Voice of Vietnam launched a test broadcast of Sonata-FM89, a dedicated classical music channel, in Hanoi on October 20, 2026.
VOV’s Vice General Director Pham Manh Hung said the launch demonstrates the cultural responsibility and strategic direction of Vietnam’s national media agency. The channel aims to give the public greater access to the arts and nurture musical appreciation.
VOV Sonata-FM89 was created in just three months, from initial concept to first broadcast. Content development, staffing, copyright research, and working out the technical details of frequencies and transmission were done simultaneously by coordinated VOV units, Mr. Hung said.

According to the production team, they select music that suits listeners’ changing moods throughout the day—from bright morning melodies to late-night jazz and classical pieces—aiming to create a standard yet accessible listening experience.
Associate Professor Bui Hoai Son, Deputy Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Publicity, is keen on VOV's Sonata-FM89, saying it adds an important option to the cultural ecosystem.

Beginning next year, VOV will expand coverage to other cities and tourist destinations nationwide, as well as to digital streaming channels.
In addition to orchestral and chamber music and other classical works, Sonata-FM89 also presents quality jazz and other instrumental music.
