Guterres described the attacks as “an attack on humanity itself” and said the UN stands with the people of New York City and all those affected by the tragedy. He said combating terrorism is a shared responsibility of the international community and called on countries to reaffirm their commitment to building a future free from terrorism.
The UN chief stressed that honoring the victims must go hand in hand with international efforts to prevent violent extremism and acts of terrorism in all their forms.
