Addressing the event, Senior Lieutenant General Le Quang Minh, Vice Chairman of the General Department of Politics, asked relevant agencies and units to finalize campaign plans and mechanisms, including inspection plans, cooperation programs with Laos and Cambodia, and preparations for the upcoming search missions.

General Minh, who is a member of the National Steering Committee for the Search, Collection and Identification of Martyrs’ Remains (Steering Committee 515), also called for stronger coordination with the US, China, and the Republic of Korea in accessing documents, artefacts, and belongings related to Vietnamese soldiers who died or went missing during the war.

He called for communications about the campaign on mass media platforms to be stepped up to ensure that the campaign's objectives are achieved.

The 500-day-and-night campaign, which began on March 15, 2025, aims to recover 7,000 sets of martyrs’ remains, complete sample collections from 232,000 unidentified graves by the second quarter of 2027, and conduct DNA testing on 18,000 sets of remains.

The campaign also seeks to build a genetic database of relatives of unidentified martyrs to support identification efforts, and step up bomb and mine clearance activities in key localities, including Tuyen Quang, Lao Cai, and Lang Son province.
