The resolution was a landmark legal and political event, affirming the victory of national reunification and ushering in a new era of independence, national unity, and the country's path toward socialism.
Over the past years, Vietnam has gained significant achievements including remarkable achievements of 40 years of national renewal since 1986. From a country under embargo with a GDP of only 4.5 billion USD in 1986, Vietnam has achieved remarkable economic growth, with its economy reaching 514 billion USD in 2025, ranking 32nd in the world.
More impressively, the poverty rate has fallen from over 80% to below 3%, making Vietnam a global model for poverty reduction.
Alongside its socio-economic transformation, Vietnam’s international standing has grown significantly. It has established diplomatic relations at all levels with countries around the world, integrated deeply into the global economy through 17 free trade agreements (FTAs), and undertaken a number of important responsibilities at the United Nations.
These achievements have been recognized by the international business community operating in Vietnam:
"I think what we've seen the last couple of years has been an immense amount of political will. We've seen all of the transformations, the institutional reforms that have taken place in the government, and we've seen many exciting infrastructure projects and a huge focus on high-quality foreign investment."
"My first 10 or 15 years in Vietnam, it was very exciting. I was very passionate about what I saw happening here. 10 years or so, we've seen an incredible acceleration, and we're going to see even more acceleration in terms of change and transformation in the next decade ahead."
The accomplishments over the past half-century provide a strong foundation for the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to continue advancing on the path of rapid, sustainable development and deeper international integration.
