This year, the festival has been held on a larger scale following the merger of the three provinces of Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, and Hoa Binh in the new Phu Tho province.
The opening ceremony featured artistic performances that honored the unique historical and cultural values of the nation and express the morale of "drinking water, remembering the source," and show gratitude for the merits of Vietnamese ancestors.
There are a variety of cultural events and sport games, including the Phu Tho Folk Arts Festival involving folk art troupes from 18 emulation clusters throughout the province and sport games joined by 400 athletes.
Other activities include the ancestral land book fair; a camp; a documentary exhibition; a thematic exhibition "Culture of the Hung Kings Era - Essence of Convergence", and a night tour of the Hung Kings’ Temple.
The Hung Kings' Temple Festival is held annually from the 1st to the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month in honor of the Hung Kings believed to the founders of the Vietnamese nation. The main festival day, which is a public holiday in Vietnam since 2007, is on the 10th day, which falls on April 26 this year.
