The centerpiece of the celebrations is in Washington, D.C., where the Great American State Fair is being held on the National Mall through July 10, featuring cultural, culinary, and historical exhibits, military band performances, amusement attractions, and family friendly activities.

At the opening ceremony, President Donald Trump delivered a speech on the National Mall, accompanied by flyovers of F-35 and B-2 military aircraft and performances by military bands. On July 3, Trump will continue the commemorations at the Mount Rushmore National Memorial in South Dakota, ahead of nationwide Independence Day celebrations on July 4.

For many younger Americans, the anniversary is an opportunity to learn about the country's history and reflect on the values that have shaped the nation.

“History is important for our nation. That’s what built our nation, so we must remember what built our nation. That’s what the parks are here to do. They’re here to preserve as much of it as they can, and show as much of it as they can to the public,” an American said.

Another shared the joy of taking part in the festivities: “We’re celebrating America, everything about America here. 250 years as a nation, we know it hasn't been perfect but we’re still here today.”

New York City will host Sail4th 250, bringing together 80 ships and 150 military aircraft from several countries for the largest air and sea parade in the city's history.

In Philadelphia, where the Declaration of Independence was adopted, the Wawa Welcome America festival will culminate with concerts, historical commemorations and a Round of 16 match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Independence Day.

In Texas, the cities and towns, including Houston and Canyon, are holding large-scale celebrations featuring concerts, historical exhibitions, family activities, and fireworks displays.
