In her more than 40 years career, Kidjo has earned 17 Grammy nominations and 5 wins.

Speaking after the ceremony, Kidjo said: "The star for me means that my vision of the world as a small village is a reality. We have the same needs no matter where we come from, which language we speak, which skin color we have. We're human, as one human family. I don't believe in any other person telling me otherwise. The skin color is just the cover. Beneath our skin, in our blood, that's where god lies miraculously."

Angelique Kidjo has been an UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2002. She co-founded the Batonga Foundation, which supports vulnerable girls and women in Benin.
