The remarks came in response to Mr. Lam’s keynote address at the Vietnam–Australia TechConnect Forum 2026 in Sydney on Monday.
Layton Pike, an advisory board member of the Australia Vietnam Policy Institute (AVPI), said he was most impressed by the five priorities for bilateral cooperation outlined by Mr. Lam.
"It provides a structure and a vision," Pike said. He highlighted the importance of more regular dialogue between the two countries and called for more high-level visits and forums such as TechConnect to build new partnerships and further strengthen bilateral ties.
Australia's chief scientist, Professor Tony Haymet, said many of the areas mentioned by Mr. Lam are also Australia’s priorities. "This new way forward that the General Secretary outlined is definitely something that Australia would like to partner with," Haymet said.
He noted that the two countries recently launched a joint research fund worth 1.3 million dollars, allowing scientists from both sides to develop collaborative projects.
