Ben Tre’s pomelo earns geographical indication

(VOVWORLD) -Green-skin pomelo, a speciality of the Mekong Delta province of Ben Tre, has been granted a geographical indication (GI) certificate by the National Office of Intellectual Property (NOIP).

According to Lam Van Tan, Director of the provincial Department of Science and Technology, the GI is applied to pomelo grown in islets in the districts of Chau Thanh, Binh Dai, Mo Cay Bac, Mo Cay Nam, Cho Lach and Ben Tre city. Statistics of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development show Ben Tre currently has around 6,500 hectares of green skin pomelo, producing almost 100,000 tonnes a year.
