According to the municipal Department of Construction, nearly 8.5 million passenger trips were recorded during the first month of the program, with ridership rising steadily week by week.
The city plans to continue improving service quality, upgrading bus terminals, and mobilizing social resources to develop a modern and sustainable public transportation system.
“We are working to optimize bus operations and reduce passenger waiting times. Schedules are carefully calculated for each stop. These measures will continue to be implemented on high-demand routes to ensure smoother operations, enhance the passenger experience, and support a more scientific and efficient management process,” said Le Hoan, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Public Transportation Management Center.
Ho Chi Minh City offers free bus services to all passengers from July 1 through the end of 2026.
According to the municipal People's Committee, the policy represents a people-centered social welfare initiative aimed at improving public services, supporting social security and encouraging residents to shift from private vehicles to public transport, thereby contributing to a greener and more sustainable urban transport system.
