The second phase of the first session of the 16th National Assembly began on Monday under the chairmanship of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and the moderation of National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Hong. The deputies focused their discussions on the 5-year socio-economic development plan until 2030.

Many expressed strong agreement with the Government's assessment of the international situation, its viewpoints, objectives, solutions, and tasks.

“The important thing is not just achieving growth figures, but how to maintain long-term stability. If we follow the old growth model that relies heavily on capital, resources, and cheap labor, it will be difficult to achieve the goal. So, we need to shift growth to be based on productivity, innovation, and added value, with particular emphasis on the role of the digital economy, green economy, circular economy, and leveraging opportunities from the fourth industrial revolution,” Ms. Ta Thi Yen, National Assembly deputy from Dien Bien province, commented.

Deputies emphasized that Vietnam's economy is highly open and facing global volatility with armed conflicts and supply chain disruptions, and major markets creating technical barriers, plus trade tensions and reciprocal tariffs.

Agriculture is the main lifeline for the national economy and society during the most difficult periods, they said and called for the Government’s more attention to and developing agricultural products by improving quality and sustainable added value.

Duong Khac Mai representing Lam Dong province said, “Organizing production in a chain aims to mobilize resources, create concentrated products, and link production, processing, and consumption of products. It’s necessary to prioritize investment in the development of agricultural processing industries, increase the added value of agricultural products, and gradually reduce and eventually stop the production of raw products in agriculture.”
