At the fourth session of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee, the Culture and Social Affairs Committee agreed on the necessity of amending the Publishing Law to finetune the legal framework, meeting the requirements of digital transformation and international integration.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said the law amendment must shift from a management mindset to a development-oriented one. "This amendment to the Publishing Law, even if only amending a few articles, must create a superior legal framework for digital publishing. At the same time a strong mechanism must be established to prevent and combat book piracy in cyberspace," Mr. Man added.

The National Assembly Standing Committee members basically agreed with the necessity of amending the Law. They proposed improving regulations on the publishing-media group model; supplementing mechanisms for developing digital publishing, applying artificial intelligence, tightening copyright protection and strictly handling violations.
