In a statement published on Monday by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), a spokesperson for the DPRK Foreign Ministry said the "Freedom Edge" military exercise constituted a "threat to the DPRK and regional countries" and accused the US and its allies of "perpetrating air espionage and other anti-DPRK military provocations one after another."
The DPRK spokesperson reaffirmed the country’s policy of responding with the “strongest possible” stance to what it calls the US “hostile policy” toward Pyongyang.
The drills come after the Trump administration earlier last month cut short joint exercises with Seoul in an apparent effort to encourage Pyongyang to resume talks.
